Hardware Requirements

You must install the TestDirector Defects Synchronizer on a separate, dedicated standard desktop machine that is not being used as a TestDirector or ClearQuest server.

Your machine must meet the minimum requirements and recommendations for a Rational Desktop System. For more information, refer to the Rational Software Desktop Products Installation Guide.

ClearQuest User Privileges

The username that is being used to synchronize defects in ClearQuest must have at least the following privileges:

·         Active User

·         SQL Editor

·         User Administrator

·         All Users/Groups Visible

TestDirector User Privileges

The username that is being used to synchronize defects in TestDirector must have TDAdmin privileges.

What’s New

·         Stopping Synchronization Tasks: You can now stop during the following processes: Integrity Check, Run URS, DRS, Users and Groups. When you resume the task, all data will be resynchronized. If you stop during a Run URS task, when you resume the task only data that has not already been synchronized will be included in the next synchronization.

·         Changing the hard-coded mapping of the Status/State field: You can change the hard-coded mapping of the Status/State field and ensure that the states in TestDirector match those in ClearQuest. For more information, refer to "Changing the Mapping of the Status/State Fields” section in the TestDirector Defects Synchronizer for Rational ClearQuest Add-in Guide.

Known Problems and Limitations

·         Run synchronizations on a dedicated machine: To avoid performance problems, it is recommended that the ClearQuest client, the TestDirector client, and the Defects Synchronizer be installed on a single machine that is used for these applications only, and not for other applications.

·         Changing the name of a domain or project: If you change the name of a domain or project, you need to update the link information, as follows:

  1. In the ClearQuest Synchronization Manager, right-click the synchronization link to which the changed domain or project name applies and choose Link Properties. The Relogin dialog box opens.
  2. Enter the correct domain or project name as required, and click Relogin. The Link Properties dialog box opens. Click OK to save the changed settings.

·         Inability to use spaces in user group names: If spaces are used when naming user groups in TestDirector, the user groups will not be synchronized in ClearQuest. For example, you cannot use the default user group “Project Manager”.

·         TD_ID field deletion: If you have already synchronized your ClearQuest project, do not delete the TD_ID field in the ClearQuest schema. If you must delete this field, you must also delete all defects in TestDirector.

·         Synchronizer crashes when running the Run URS option: After adding a new field to the Linked Fields tab in the Link Properties dialog box, the synchronizer may crash when running the Run URS option. Workaround: After you map the new field, close and reopen the synchronizer.

·         Duplication problem when moving a defect between queries: A duplication problem occurs when you move a defect to a different query and then move it back to the original query.

·         ClearQuest limitation: After processing an integrity check, the ClearQuest ID number increments by one extra number. After creating a synchronization link, it increments by two extra numbers.

·         User group permissions default back to Viewer permissions: After you synchronize a user group from ClearQuest to TestDirector, you must reconfigure the permissions.

·         Duplicate defects: If a ClearQuest project is mapped to several TestDirector projects using queries, and some of the same defects are present in these queries, the synchronization process will create duplicate defects. It is strongly recommended that you filter the defects to avoid duplications.

·         Attachment name limitation: If an attachment name is longer than 50 characters, the attachment will not be synchronized from Quality Center to ClearQuest. ClearQuest support attachment names up to 50 characters only.

·         Field value longer than 40 characters: When mapping a ClearQuest short string to a Quality Center lookup list, if the field value is longer than 40 characters, only the first 40 characters will be synchronized.

Issues Addressed

This section describes the major fixes included in this release.

·         User name longer than 20 characters: User names that are longer than 20 characters can now be successfully synchronized from ClearQuest to TestDirector.

·         Temp environment variable for services: It is no longer necessary to configure a TEMP environment variable.

·         Synchronizing user names with uppercase letters: Fixed the synchronization problem that occurred in an Oracle based project when synchronizing user names with uppercase letters in ClearQuest. Solution: In the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TDCQ Synchronizer, set the OracleCheckListValuesCase key value to Y.

·         Synchronizing attachments with multiple description strings: The synchronizer can now synchronize attachments with multiple description strings.
